IRMO – Mary Katherine "Katie" Hirsch, 85, passed from this life on January 18, 2019 at Lexington Medical Center. A native of Buffalo, NY, Katie was a graduate of the University of Buffalo and was married to the late George S. Hirsch, also of Buffalo. They were retired real estate professionals, longtime residents of Irmo, SC, and members of Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church in Chapin, SC. Katie was an active supporter of, and docent at, the Columbia Museum of Art where she enjoyed conducting tours and educating visitors.
She is survived by her children, Gordon Hirsch of Myrtle Beach, SC, Edward Hirsch of Irmo, Linda Ward of Charlotte, NC, and Carol Hirsch of New York, NY; and by six grandchildren, Hunter Hirsch of Charlotte, Hayden Hirsch of Myrtle Beach, Bailey Ward and Ross Ward of Charlotte; Madelyn Lawrence of Weaverville, NC, and Connor Hirsch of New York.
A 9:30 a.m. Rosary Service and 10:00 a.m. Memorial Mass will be held Friday, January 25, 2019, at Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church, followed by inurnment at Bush River Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the church for a noon luncheon. Memorial donations may be made to the Columbia Museum of Art in lieu of flowers. Caughman-Harman Funeral Home, Lexington Chapel is assisting the family with arrangements.
