Melanie Joan Clark, age 62, of Swansea, South Carolina died peacefully at home on Wednesday April 22, 2026. She was born on September 7th, 1963, and was predeceased by her parents, Frank and Margaret Sanford of Bethel, CT as well as siblings, Margaret Hawes of TX and Jean Baxter of CT.
Melanie cared deeply for those around her, always exceeding expectations for the responsibilities of those closest to her. She spent most of her time gardening, fostering her beloved cats and nurturing her land at home and her people near and far. As a home maker for most of her life, we will continue her legacy of determined work ethic, keep a spotless home and laugh through even the most difficult times.
Generous beyond her means, Mel was a real firecracker and a true fighter and taught us how to never stop reaching for the stars and giving our children better lives than she believed we had. However, anyone that knew her would know growing up with my mom meant we grew up with an unconditional force of a woman; she leaves huge shoes to fill in our family. Someone who was always there for you even without reciprocation. Someone who knew that even if it meant loving from a far, it was still worth loving hard.
Always keeping busy with her many projects and countless million-dollar ideas, she still made room to make anyone who needed her feel important and gave them her undivided attention with ease. Mom LOVED to be needed, and that she was very much so.
Melanie is survived by her three children; Frank Clark and his wife Kelley Clark, Kevin Clark and his wife Amanda and Rebecca Clark and her soon-to-be husband, Chris Denman; seven grandchildren, Michael Clark and fiancée, Ramona Doss, Christina, Kevin, Matthew, James, Iris and Aiden whom she all loved, adored and cared deeply for.
Melanie also leaves behind five siblings; Frank Sanford of Texas; Roberta Koehn, Arkansas; Gail Pens of Texas; Beth Sanford and Nicola Lauri of Connecticut. Along with countless nieces, nephews and friends. She will be dearly missed.
A private memorial service will be held at her home residence in South Carolina, with a public service to follow in Connecticut in the coming months.
In lieu of flowers please consider donating to Lost Mittens Rescue- Sumter, SC. My mother volunteered with this as a foster home and had great admiration for those that addressed the need for services of feral cats in the state of South Carolina.
