Merna Joy Leigh

In loving memory of Merna Joy Leigh, age 89, who peacefully passed away on Wednesday, September 20th, 2023, in Lexington, South Carolina. Merna was born in Hastings, MI on January 9th, 1934, to the late Melvin Wayne Campbell and Thalma Reid.

Throughout her life, Merna accomplished notable achievements, including achieving two hole-in-ones on the golf course, enjoying membership in a pontoon club, and residing by the lakes, despite never learning to swim. Merna dedicated a significant portion of her life as a Management Analyst for the Department of Defense. She even spent some time at the Pentagon.

Beyond her professional endeavors, she was a devoted mother, nurturing and supporting her three sons, Scott Harrell, Richard Harrell, and Michael Harrell, through challenging times. Merna's strong work ethic left an indelible mark on her children, shaping their characters and inspiring them to succeed. Merna Joy Leigh leaves a legacy of love, strength, and resilience. She will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and all those whose lives she touched. May she find eternal peace in the embrace of the heavens.

Merna is survived by her three sons, Scott Harrell, Richard Harrell, and Michael Harrell; stepchildren, Susan Nachezel and Blair Cohen; eighteen grandchildren and sixteen great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 27 years, Robert Leigh.

In remembrance of Merna's life, a Celebration of Life gathering will be determined at a later date. In lieu of flowers please make a donation to a charity of choice.
