LEXINGTON - Michael “Mike” John Parker passed away unexpectedly on April 28, 2015 at the age of 58. Mike was the son of Patricia Parker and the late Harry Parker. Mike was the proud husband of Sandra Dooley Parker and the loving father of his two daughters, Dr. Jessica Parker Floyd and Erica Parker Ellis. Mike was grandfather or “Poppy” to his beautiful grandchildren, Ella, Parker, Liv and Jax whom he loved passionately. When Mike’s son-in-laws, Perry Floyd and Zachary Ellis, joined the family, he truly felt like he had sons of his own. He was brother to Richard Parker, Cindy Bodkin, Mary Calloway, Kathy Slice, Diane Futrelle, and Marsha Kachaturoff. Mike also had numerous nieces and nephews.
Mike adored and loved his family, friends and Michigan football. He loved drinking red wine and fires by the lake. He took every chance he could to be with his girls. Most of all, he dearly loved his wife, Sandra. Mike was an accomplished athlete, and a proud member of the University of Michigan baseball team. In his junior year of college, Mike was drafted by the San Diego Padres. After meeting Sandra, Mike realized his heart belonged in Lexington. He was quickly “Southernized” but held strong to his Yankee roots. He started and built, through hard work and perseverance, Parker’s of Lexington.
After a few years of marriage to Sandra, Mike soon realized he should develop his cooking skills. He quickly developed a reputation for providing exceptional food for family and friends. Mike never met a stranger and treated his friends as his family. He lived each day as if it was his last. He told his loved ones every day just how much they meant to him, and would take the time to thank them for the time spent together. Mike was the life of the party, was quick with a story and could make anyone feel at home shortly after meeting them. He so enjoyed making his nieces, Josie and Claire, laugh.
Mike will be missed by the community, his friends and his family. He will live on through the many stories of his friends and through the lives of his family.
The family will receive family and friends for a visitation at St. David’s Lutheran Church on Thursday, April 30, 2015 between 5:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m.
A celebration of his life service will be held at St. David’s Lutheran Church on Friday, May 1, 2015 at 4:00 p.m.
