Myrna W. Black, 88, of Lexington, SC, died on Friday, January 15, 2021 after a short-term illness. Mrs. Black was born in Lexington, SC to the late Reba and J. Maxey Wingard. She was the granddaughter of the late Martha and Ambrose Wingard and Lilla and Thad Derrick.
Myrna spent all of her years in Lexington, graduating from Lexington schools and attending the University of South Carolina. She married F. U. “Jeff” Black in 1952. She was a lifelong member of St. Stephen’s Lutheran Church and Lutheran Church Women/Women of the ELCA. She worked for a time at Fort Jackson in public service to our country before having children. She sold World Book Encyclopedias and served as office manager for Rogers Property Management after her children went off to school. Myrna was a valued and loved volunteer at Lexington Medical Center for more than 25 years. She and husband, Jeff, were fond of travel and drove the continental US several times in their retirement years.
After 61 years of marriage, Jeff preceded her in death in 2013. She is survived by her daughter, Esther P. “Penni” Black of Lexington, KY and son, Ivan R. Black (Michelle) of Lexington, SC. She is survived by grandchildren, Bailey W. Black, Grant R. Black and Emilee C. Black, all of Lexington, SC; sister, Maxine Taylor of Charlotte, NC and many nieces and nephews.
A private family graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, January 28, 2021 at St. Stephen’s Lutheran Church cemetery and will be live streamed. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to St. Stephen’s Lutheran Church, 119 N. Church St., Lexington, SC or Lexington Medical Center Volunteer Auxiliary Serenity Garden Fund.
