Nicholas Eric Nielsen (US Air Force, Retired) passed from this world on 9 February 2022. He was born on 25 August 1954 in Albany, New York to his caring parents, Robert Arthur Nielsen (deceased 1961) and Elizabeth Keeler Mapes (deceased 1996), and received the support of stepfather, Rev. Victor R. Zaccaro (deceased 2015).
Nick leaves behind his loving wife of 37 years, Ella E. Nielsen, and two beloved sons, Erik A. Nielsen and L. Michael Nielsen. He also leaves his brothers, Christopher (Mary Lynne), Jon (Maria) and Ken (Karen) as well as his stepsisters, Suzanne Buhl (Gary) and Lynda Sperry (Walter Jr., deceased 2010). Nick also cherished his numerous nieces and nephews, as well as his great-nieces and great-nephews.
Nick Nielsen grew up in Richmondville, NY. There he was a Boy Scout and learned to play the piano, organ, and trumpet. He attended SUNY-Cobleskill before joining the Air Force in 1976, retiring in 1999. Nick worked as a contractor IT technician for DSS in Columbia, SC; as a high school technology electronics teacher at Lexington 1; and most recently, as an IT technician for Pomeroy. He volunteered as a safety inspector for several years with the robotics competition held in South Carolina, and he worked with various marching band state competitions in the Batesburg-Leesville area directing the parking of buses. His humor, willingness to assist others, and passionate support of our country through its military were appreciated and will be missed by those who knew him.
