He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Joan; daughter, Nancy Kidd (widowed); grandson, Joseph Cooper (Brittani); granddaughter, Kaitlyn Limjap (RJ) and great granddaughter, Aven Cooper.
Mr. Stone graduated from Oklahoma State University with a BS in Forestry and retired from the South Carolina Forestry Commission. He served as a pilot in the US Marine Corp from 1962 until 1982, including the Marine 1 Pilot for former President Richard Nixon. He completed two tours in Vietnam, as well as multiple overseas tours. Mr. Stone received the Bronze Star with Valor along with numerous other military awards.
A graveside service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, May 14, 2021 at Fort Jackson National Cemetery, 4170 Percival Road, Columbia, SC 29229. Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 13, 2021 at Caughman-Harman Funeral Home, Lexington Chapel, 503 North Lake Drive, Lexington, SC 29072.
