On December 8, 2023, Richard Flake Jr., loving father, son, and brother, passed away at the age of 54. Richard was born in Baton Rouge, Louisiana on March 28, 1969, to Richard and Linda (Christmas) Flake, Sr.
Richard’s greatest joy in life was being a father and raising his two children, Trey Flake and Kaitlyn (Flake) White. Richard received his undergraduate and master’s degree from the University of South Carolina and spent his career impacting the lives of many as a middle school teacher and coach. He was so proud to have been awarded his school’s teacher of the year award not long after starting his teaching career.
Richard was known for his impeccable knowledge of history, unique sense of humor, and his loving and accepting heart. His favorite time of year was the holidays. He loved to decorate his home for Halloween and Christmas. Outside of a decorated home for the holidays, his happy place was the beach. He spent many trips at the beach walking by the water with his children searching for shark’s teeth and spending time with family.
Richard was preceded in death by his grandparents, Charlie Christmas and Victor and Mae Flake. He is survived by his parents, Richard and Linda Flake Sr.; his two children, Trey (Ashley) Flake, and Kaitlyn (Luke) White; his (much anticipated) grandson, August White; his brother, Charlie Flake; his grandmother, Jamie Christmas; his niece and nephews; and his beloved dog, Bruce.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his name to the National Pancreatic Cancer Foundation at 1760 Centre St, Rapid City, SD 57703, https://www.npcf.us/donate-directly/
