Bobby was born on June 9, 1938 in Columbia, SC, graduated from BC High School in 1956, and graduated from the University of South Carolina in 1961 with a B.S. Degree in Mechanical Engineering. He joined the Naval Reserve from 1961 to 1967 with active duty from 1962 to 1964. He served as a seaman on the USS Oxford and the USS Paiute as an Electrical Tech 3rd Class. Bobby was a member and beloved brother in Christ at Cayce Presbyterian Church.
Bob began his career with Johnson Controls in Columbia, then he joined SC Highway Department as a Mechanical Engineer for Bridge Design before his 30 year career as a Mechanical Engineer with Charleston Naval Shipyard, Combat Systems Division, where he retired.
He was predeceased by his parents, Obed M. Baston and Jervey R. Huskey; brothers, John R. Baston (Dick) and William O. Baston (Billy). He is survived by his wife, Rebecca Lee Baston; son, Robert Kirk Baston (Katie F. Baston); granddaughters, Savanna and Abigail; niece, Debbie Clayton; nephew, Brent Baston; step brother, Ed Huskey; and step sisters, Ansel Kefauver, Jeannie Huskey, and Juli Mosley.
A memorial service will be held at the Elmwood Funeral Home Chapel on Thursday, October 3, 2024 at 2:00 pm.
