LEESVILLE – CSM Major Robert E. “Bob” Jorden, US. Army Retired, 80, died Saturday, November 24, 2012. Born in Cartersville County, GA August 25, 1932, he was the son of the late Whitt and Mary Jorden. Bob was widowed by his wife of 54 wonderful years, Ruth “Booger” Jorden.
CSM. Jorden served twenty three years in the United States Army. He also served twenty three years with the South Carolina Job Service and retired as the State Rural Manpower Service Director. CSM. Jorden served two combat tours in Korea and two combat tours in Vietnam. His awards include the Silver Star, two Bronze Stars with one Service Star, Combat Infantry Badge with Star, Air Medal with Bronze Star, Presidential Unit Citation and numerous Service Awards. Bob was a forty five year Mason and a forty four year member of the Jamil Shrine Temple. He was a member of the Greenville Board of Governors of the Greenville Shriners Hospital. Bob lived in the Great State of Texas until moving to South Carolina. Bob loved South Carolina and her wonderful people and will join his wife who is buried at Fort Jackson National Cemetery in Columbia, SC.
Funeral services will be held at 12:30 p.m. Wednesday, November 28, 2012 at Caughman-Harman Funeral Home, Lexington Chapel with burial at 2:00 p.m. in Fort Jackson National Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, November 27, 2012 at the funeral home chapel.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Daughters of the Nile, Arabi Temple # 141, 206 Jamil Road, Columbia, SC 29210.
Bob is survived by his nephew, John Roberts and family now stationed with the United States Air Force in Germany. Bob also enjoyed his God Child, Marsha Oswalt - Long and her husband, Leonard Long and their daughter, Madison Jorden Long and his dear friend, Joan Damron.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. John Brown, Dr. Alan Paysinger and Dr. Mark Ezekiel and the nursing staff at Newberry County Memorial Hospital.
