Family visitation will be held at 3:00 PM on Sunday, June 28, 2020 in the Caughman-Harman Funeral Home, Lexington Chapel, with the Celebration of Life service following at 4:00 PM. A private family graveside service will be at Celestial Memorial Gardens following the service with grandsons, Branden Woods, Travis and Phillip Lucas, Jeremy, Patrick and Ross Laffoday as Pallbearers.
Mrs. Lucas was born in West Columbia and was the daughter of the late Joseph Roscoe and Hazel Lee Shealy of West Columbia. She was previously employed by the Horseman Doll Company in Columbia, Argo Camera in Springdale, a school bus driver for Lexington School District Two and Lucas Memorial Company in West Columbia with her late husband, Franklin David Lucas. She enjoyed camping, fishing, sewing, needlepoint, crochet and knitting, often creating beautiful quilts, afghans and various hand-made items from framed works to baby clothing, that will always be cherished by her family.
She is survived by her five children, Rhonda Lucas Woods of Pelion, Jimmy D. Lucas (Susan) of Gilbert, Brenda Lucas Blackstone (Glenn) of Lexington, Karen Lucas Laffoday of Lexington and Renee’ Lucas Howell (Robert) of Pelion; ten grandchildren, Cade Woods, Pelion, Kimberly Woods Wolfe (David) of Graniteville, Branden Woods (Brittany) of Pelion, Travis Lucas and Phillip Lucas of Gilbert, Cassie Howell Blackwell (Thomas) of West Columbia, Victoria Blackstone of Spartanburg, Jeremy Laffoday of Myrtle Beach, Patrick Laffoday and Ross Laffoday of Lexington; five great grandchildren, Colby Woods, Lillyanna Wolfe, Autumn Woods, Lilah-Grace Wolfe and Danni Woods; a sister, Joan Kearse and cousin, Reverend Larry Shull (Brenda) of West Columbia.
In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Lucas is preceded in death by her brother, Ronnie Shealy; grandson, Luke Howell and sons-in-law, Jordan Laffoday and Danny Woods.
The family would like to especially thank our two wonderful caregivers, Tracy and Erica, from Home Instead Senior Care as our team from Compassionate Care Hospice. All helped us honor our mother by keeping her comfortable at home with dignity in her final days.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association or Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation (IPF).
