She was born in Great Falls, SC in 1941 to Mae Lawson Powers and Samuel Raymond Powers. Finishing elementary school and high school, Sara moved to Columbia to pursue her further education at the University of South Carolina. After a variety of jobs, she secured a position in the office of the Attorney General of South Carolina, where she worked with distinction until she retired in 2008.
Sara and Raymond Cook met in June of 2017 in Bridgeville, PA, just South of Pittsburgh, and were married on November 30, 2017. They bought a house and settled down in the Harbison area of Columbia.
Sara is survived by Raymond Cook, husband, Cheryl Sampson, daughter and Meredith Good, daughter, with six grandchildren, and Lorri Good, step-daughter, and Carrie Young, step-daughter with eleven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
A Celebrate Life event will be held in March, date to be determined, at her daughter Merideth’s house. A second Celebrate Life event will be held in April, date to be determined, at Riverland Hills Baptist Church in Irmo.
