

LEXINGTON – Sarah Ann Parler Watkins died on Thursday, March 13, 2014. She was born in Holly Hill, SC on June 27, 1945. She was the daughter of Sallie Pendarvis and Julius Lonnie Parler. She is survived by her husband, William Lockwood Watkins, III; a daughter, Tracey Watkins Dow and a son, Clayton Lockwood Watkins (Susan); grandchildren, William Preston Dow, Claire Ansley Watkins Gracen Eveleigh Watkins; brother, J. Lonnie Parler (Carolyn) and sister, June Parler Wynn; sister-in-law, Gayle W. Morgan and many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her father; mother; sister-in-law, Linda Watkins and her beloved companion, Dux bak.
Sarah was a graduate of Holly Hill High School and Columbia College. Her career spanned many endeavors, Teacher, Real Estate agent, color analyst, art consultant and professional shopper. She was a member of Good Shepherd Catholic Church and served on the Altar Guild. She was a member of The Carolinian Society. She also devoted much of her time and energy to the Dickerson Center for Abused and Neglected Children. She served on the Board of Directors and participated in many fund raising events.
Funeral Mass for Sarah Ann Parler Watkins will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, March 18, 2014 at Good Shepherd Catholic Church, 809 Calhoun Street, Columbia, SC. Father William Ladkau will officiate. Following the mass, the family will receive friends at a reception to celebrate her life at the Seibels Bruce House located on the corner of Richland and Pickens Street. Lunch will be served. A visitation will be held from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Monday, March 17, 2014 at Caughman-Harman Funeral Home, Lexington Chapel.
Sarah died after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Our many thanks go out to Dr. Robert K. Stuart and his staff at the MUSC Hollings Cancer Center, BMT Clinic and the many caring staff members on Five West at the Ashley River Tower. Also, many thanks are extended to Dr. Kudrick and his staff at South Carolina Oncology and the doctors and nurses at the Lexington Medical Center.
