Scott Edward Benepe, 58, passed away peacefully at his home on August 17, 2026. Born July 8, 1968, Scott will be remembered with deep respect and enduring affection by all who were privileged to know him.
From the moment Scott came into the world, he left an impression that stayed with people. Loved by everyone who crossed his path, he met life with a steady determination; though he was born with Down syndrome, it never slowed him down. In the ways that mattered most, Scott’s presence was a quiet lesson in perseverance, and his life remains an inspiration to those who carry his memory forward.
Scott was predeceased by his biological father Richard Benepe and his mother Sylvia Ruff, brother, Todd Benepe, grandparents Rosaline Ringer and H.C. Shealy; aunts, Helen Wise, Ellie Jane Wise and Carolyn Marsh.
Scott is survived by his brothers, Don (Haylee) Benepe and Sean (Julie) Ruff; step-dad, Ervin Len Ruff who raised and loved Scott dearly. Also, niece, nephews and cousins.
Visitation will be held at Caughman-Harman Funeral Home - Lexington, 503 North Lake Drive, Lexington, SC 29072, on Thursday August 20, 2026, from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm.
The Funeral Service will be held at St. Peter Lutheran Church, 900 Dreher Island Road, Chapin, SC 29036, on Saturday August 22, 2026, at 11:00 am, with burial to follow in the church cemetery.
Even as hearts are broken in his absence, Scott’s family takes comfort in the faith that he is reunited with loved ones and has become another guardian angel for the family. His life—so deeply cherished—will continue to speak through the love he gave and the strength he showed.
