LEXINGTON – Mrs. Shirley Ann Mathias passed away Monday, September 25, 2017 at the age of 82.
She was born on August 28, 1935 in Lexington, SC to the late Francis Tillman Mathias, Sr. and Maxcy Emma McCracken Mathias. She grew up with five siblings and attended Lexington High School, graduating with the class of 1953. Shirley worked at Keenan Oil Company for many years and contributed her time working at the family owned business, Four Oaks Farm, before retiring. Shirley was great at southern home cooking; in addition to being an avid writer, she had written an award winning recipe book to celebrate her mother’s family recipes. She was passionate about giving to others and would always sacrifice her time if it benefited anyone in her life. Her benevolence did not stop there; she would never ask for anything in return and, if you were to offer her even the smallest of gifts, you would see the widest, most delightful smile one could ever lay eyes on, accepting it as if you had given her your prized possession.
Shirley is survived by a son, Robert Brandon Miller of Chapin; grandson, Christopher Jacob Miller; sister, Betty Jo Mathias Sox; sister-in-law, Patricia Mathias and four grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Maxine M. Higgins; two sons, Jeffrey and Rhett Miller; three brothers, and one sister.
A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, October 1, 2017 at Four Oaks Farm on Hwy 1, Lexington SC. The family is grateful for the condolences and appreciates your attendance.
