Spencer “Lindsey” Cooper, 87, of Columbia, SC passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family on June 15, 2023. He was preceded in death by his parents, Anderson B. Cooper and Edna B. Gunter; his son Spencer Lindsey Cooper Jr. and his wife of 67 years, Georgia Turbeville Cooper.
He is survived by his daughters Cindy Koehler (Kirk) and Kim Cooper-Dotson; grandchildren Kerstyn K. Adcox, Kincaid Koehler (Shelby), Leta Dotson, Cooper Dotson, and great granddaughter, Kirklyn “Beanie” Adcox and brother, Pete (Julie) Cooper.
Lindsey was born in Winnsboro, SC on October 20, 1935 where he attended Mt. Zion Institute High School and met his wife Georgia. Lindsey and Georgia moved to Columbia, SC where he worked for Greyhound Bus Lines for 30 years. He then finished out his career with SCE&G as a city bus driver, then finally working with lake management.
He was an active member with the Jamil Temple Shriners for many years. Lindsey never met a stranger. He enjoyed weekends at Lake Murray and Gamecock football. He was also an avid golf player. Lindsey could often be found outside working in his yard or walking his beloved Jayne Ln.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm on June 22, 2023 at Caughman-Harman Funeral Home, Lexington Chapel. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. A reception will follow the service and burial will be held at a later date.
