Born on April 1, 1951, Rhett was the son of the late Rudolph “Cooter” and Marjorie Harmon Sharpe. A graduate of Lexington High School, Rhett dedicated 31 years of faithful service to the State of South Carolina, retiring from the Department of Juvenile Justice.
Rhett was an avid outdoorsman whose greatest joy was found in nature. He was a member of The Willingham Hunting Club, where he spent many great times with his friends. Whether he was hunting deer, fishing on Lake Murray, or turkey hunting with his best companion, his beloved dog Willie, he felt most at home in the outdoors.
Rhett will be deeply missed and remembered by his family and a host of friends for his warm smile, his humble spirit, and his ever-present willingness to help others.
The family extends their deepest gratitude to Rhett's lifelong friends who provided unwavering love and support throughout his life and especially during his illness.
He was predeceased by his loving parents; his brother, Julian; and his only son, Stephen.
Rhett is survived by his two sisters, Robin Sharpe Leverton of Beaufort, SC, and Rynn Sharpe Herndon of Columbia, SC; his nephew, Robbie O. Chandler; and his nieces, Healy F. Akridge and Nora H. Sharpe.
