Born on August 8th, 1935, in Nicolet, Quebec, Suzette was the only sibling to leave her small hometown and come to the United States. First in Ontario, she later moved to Syracuse, where she began a family with William E. Keeler, DVM, supporting both him and his veterinary practice. She spent most of her life as a devoted mother and dedicated nurse. Best known for adoring her grandchildren and great grandchildren, she loved spending time with friends and family, and her dinner table was always a place filled with laughter and love.
Suzette enjoyed traveling with the grandkids across the country, drinking coffee, watching birds, knitting, crafting, going to the zoo, horse shows, shopping, and caring for seniors. Her beautiful personality, French accent, quick wit, and unmistakable sense of humor made her truly one of a kind. Her cheerful “hey” and bright smile lit up any room. She was generous beyond words, always aware of her blessings, and reminding her family often of how much she loved them. If anyone was in need, she had her wallet ready—and she would get downright mad if you didn’t let her pay for something. Her laughter, her love of family, and her ability to make everyone feel cherished will never be forgotten.
She is survived by her children, Michelle (Kit), Eric (Patty), Sheryl (Mark), and Anne Marie (Hans); her grandchildren, Brittany (David), Kaci (Ryan), Holly, Leanne (Eric) and Ricky; and her siblings, Raymonde, Louise, Louisette, Micheline, Gilles, and Pierre and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Lucien & Yvonne Houde; her brother, Francois Houde; and great grandson, Brice Alan Chestnut.
We’ll be celebrating her life with a small, private family gathering. In lieu of flowers, the family encourages everyone to spend a special day with loved ones at one of her favorite places—Riverbanks Zoo, the beach—or simply enjoy the birds, drink coffee, and be together.
