Terry G. Atwood, 67, of Lexington, SC went to be with the Lord and many of her loved ones on the morning of Tuesday, July 8, 2025 at Lexington Medical Center after a hard-fought two-year battle with idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis.
She was born in Sumter, SC to the late Hamp and Frances Gaylord. Terry was a kind, smart, generous, tenacious and loving lady with a great sense of humor. She enjoyed taking care of everyone else which is what led her to nursing school. It was at Midland’s Technical College that she met her late husband, Freddy, the love of her life when he decided that he wanted his second career to be that of a registered nurse after retiring from the military. They graduated together and were married in 1991. Terry never stopped being a nurse, even after retiring, and was her husband’s caregiver for many years after he became ill until she lost him just 11 months ago.
She is survived by her sister, Deborah Harmon; brother, Chris Gaylord (Alicia); stepsons, Brian Atwood and Shawn Atwood (Sara); granddaughter, Grace Atwood; special uncle and aunt, Frank and Leu Hinson; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who already miss her.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM on Thursday, July 17, 2025 at Caughman Harman Funeral Home – Lexington Chapel, 503 North Lake Drive, Lexington, SC 29072. The family will receive friends from 1:00 PM to 1:45 PM prior to the service at the funeral home. A burial will follow the service at Lexington Memorial Gardens, 1772-1782 W. Main Street, Lexington, SC 29072.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital (https://www.stjude.org/donate/) or to the ASPCA (https://www.aspca.org/ways-to-give).
