
COLUMBIA - Virginia Lee Bollman Filiatreault was born March 31, 1919 in Langonsdale, PA to Luther and Nellie Bollman. Her two sisters are, Florence Ridz who resides in Palmer, MA, Dolores Hepschmidt who resides in Liverpool, PA and two brothers, Luther and Raymond who are deceased.
She graduated with honors from Broad Top High School in Defiance, PA in 1937 and was Valedictorian of the 1940 graduating class at J.C. Blair Memorial Hospital, School of Nursing in Huntington, PA.
Virginia enlisted in the Army Nurse Corps in 1942 and served in North Africa and Italy. While in Italy, first Lieutenant, Virginia met second Lieutenant, Willis Joseph Filiatreault, who was also serving in the Army and they married in Italy during their tour of duty on November 20, 1944. Virginia was the mother of three children, Jeanne Therese Konigseder (Frank), Carol Lee Nauseda (Frank) and James Willis Filiatreault (Rhonda).
During their working years, Bill and Virginia resided in Illinois where Virginia was a homemaker while her children were in school and then she returned to nursing until her retirement. After retirement she and Bill moved to Florida. Bill and Virginia enjoyed camping and spending time with their supper club friends called the “Gangi Gang”. The gang was made up of four couples who were notorious for being long time close friends with very different religious backgrounds, including, Catholic, Jewish and Protestant.
Bill passed away in 2003 and in 2010 Virginia made the decision to move to Rice Estates in Columbia, SC where she was active in painting and clay classes and even entered her paintings in the South Carolina State Fair. Other hobbies included sewing, knitting, word games and reading.
Virginia passed away peacefully on April 23, 2015 at Rice Estates. She is survived by her three children and their spouses. Six grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
