Virginia Mitchell Kerce, 101, of Lexington, SC, wife of the late Ralph Burton Kerce, was peacefully called home to be with her Lord and Savior after a recent decline in health. Virginia was born in King, NC on July 16, 1916 and was the daughter of the late John Wilson Mitchell and Laura Mills Mitchell.
Surviving are sons and daughters-in-law, John and Louise Kerce of Lexington, SC and Greg and Cyndi Kerce, of Greenville SC. Also surviving are four grandsons, Jason, Patrick, Bryce and Brett, and his wife Courtney and their two children, Brooke Elizabeth and Caleb.
Virginia had a great love for poetry. She had committed to memory many classic poems and could recite them upon request well into her 90’s. She and her late husband, Ralph, loved to dance and would do the Jitterbug at every opportunity. They enjoyed traveling together and discovering new countries and cultures. Virginia and Ralph lived in Camden, SC for 25 years where they were active members of Camden First Baptist Church. After Ralph’s death Virginia moved to Deepwood Estates Retirement Community in Lexington, SC in 2004. She was known for her spunk and sharp sense of humor and was loved by all of the residents there.
The family would like to express appreciation to the staff of Deepwood Estates, Assisting Hands Home Care of Lexington, Lighthouse Hospice, and longtime caregivers Kim Thornton and Emily Jumper who have so faithfully supported Virginia and provided her with loving care.
A celebration of Virginia’s life will be held at Caughman-Harmon Funeral Home Lexington Chapel on April 28th at 11:00 a.m. Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. in the chapel.
