Wanda was born in Greenwood, SC on April 2, 1956 to the late William “Willie” T. and Kathleen Bryant. Wanda is survived by her husband, Gary Garland and stepson, Gary, Jr.; sisters, Teresa Shackelford (Flip) of Summerville, SC and Jennifer Brown (Dwayne) of Lexington, SC and one brother, Glen Bryant (Betty) of Easley, SC.
She also was Aunt Wannie to numerous nieces and nephews: Kevin, Liam, Jason, Michelle, Katie, Josh, Matt, Ben, Zack, Will, and Isabella “Belly”. They were the joys of her life!
Wanda graduated from Greenwood High School in 1973. She graduated from Lander University School of Nursing in 1977. After a 13-year career as a Behavioral Health Nurse, she and Gary opened a very successful antique business in New York City, “Gary’s on Fourth.” In 2002, after the 9/11 attack, they closed the business and she returned to nursing as a Case Manager. She became the Director of Case Management at NY Westchester Square Medical Center, and St. Barnaba’s Health Care, also in NY. At the time of her death, she was the Director of Case Management with Kindred Hospital in Greensboro, NC.
Her family was her life. She attended every event, occasion, and was always known for putting that special “Wannie” touch on everything she did.
She was a devoted follower of Jesus Christ, and her church was Dream Church in Columbia, SC, which also is pastored by her nephew, Joshua Brown.
Family and friends are invited to a Celebration of Life service, which will be held at Dream Church on Saturday, February 26 at 1:00 pm. Burial will follow at Elmwood Cemetery, Columbia, SC.
In lieu of flowers, Wanda’s wish was for everyone to make a donation to Dream Church at www.dreamcolumbia.com/give.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.caughmanlexington.com for the Garland family.
