Obituary of Charmaign Dare
Liberty, IN Charmaign Dare, 82 of Liberty, died December 2, 2017 at Friends Fellowship Community, Richmond after battling Glioblastoma. Charmaign was born in Richmond on July 18, 1935 to Russell J. and Esther R. Burkhardt Cox. She was a 1953 graduate of Kitchel High School and attended Indiana University, later graduating from Indiana University East. On July 4, 1954, Charmaign married Charley Dare, her husband of fifty five years, at Hanna’s Creek Christian Church, where they remained active members. She retired from her position as traffic manager at Kaiser and was the Union County Development Corporation Executive Director as well as the Union County Foundation Executive Director for several years. Charmaign was a ten year 4-H member and later a 4-H Junior Leader Advisor. She was also a member of the Hanna’s Creek Women’s Fellowship, the Union County Historical Society, Harmony Club and Progressive Homemakers Club. Charmaign was a very proud Grandma and relished the time spent with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. In her leisure time, she greatly enjoyed using her membership at the Richmond Civic Theatre. Charmaign is survived by her daughter and son-in-law: Ginny and Kent McFarland of Lewisville, her son and daughter-in-law: Abe and Tonya Dare of Liberty; her grandchildren and their spouses: Aimee Cox and Wes, Daisy Logue and Scott, Joshua Dare and Lori, Dustin Bruns and Emily, Jacob Dare and Allison, Stacy Jarboe and Casey, Sunita Dare, Ravi Dare, Ramya Dare, Ekata Dare, thirteen great-grandchildren, her sisters and brothers-in-law: Nancy and Reverend Fred Dare of Colorado Springs, Colorado; Patty Hockman and Dwain of Mountain View, Missouri; her sisters-in-law: Nancy Dare of Northport, Alabama; Rita Ripberger of Liberty; Ruth Ann Howard and Dale of Greensfork; Donna Wagner of Shelbyville; several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and her husband, Charley, who died August 11, 2009, Charmaign is preceded in death by her brother, Russell Cox; her sister, Virginia Bostick and her brothers-in-law: Bob Dare and Jim Ripberger. Funeral services for Charmaign will be at 12 p.m. Thursday, December 7, 2017 at Showalter Blackwell Long Funeral Home, Fosdick Chapel, Liberty with Reverend Dana Hadden of Hanna’s Creek Christian Church, officiating. Interment will follow at Glen Haven Memorial Gardens, Boston. Friends may visit Thursday from 10 a.m. until the time of service where memorial contributions may be made to the Union County Foundation or to Hanna’s Creek Christian Church.
