Alverna, known affectionately as "Granny Al" or "Big Al," was born in Wasta, S.D., on May 28, 1929, to Manning and Esther Graham.
She moved to the Kansas City area in her late teens, marrying Freddie Ray Stockwell. Later, she wed Lawrence Jenkins. Late in life, her companion was Don Short. All preceded in her death.
Alverna was a cosmetologist, working in various salons in Excelsior Springs. Later, she worked at the Hallmark Distribution Center in Liberty. She attended Pleasant Valley Baptist Church.
All who encountered Alverna loved her zest for life, and appreciated her keen sense of adventure. A ready smile was always apparent.
Survivors include son and daughter-in-law, Dan and Deb Stockwell, daughters and son-in-laws, Jeannie and Paul Bailey, and Sandy and Larry Turner.
Surviving grandchildren are Jayn Bailey Chaney (Scott), Jennifer Bailey Hickey (Taylor), Alison Stockwell, Ashley Stockwell Hollingsworth (Daniel), Blake Bledsoe and Brent Bledsoe. Her great-grandson is Jackson Paul Chaney.
Visitation is 10 a.m. Monday, December 2, 2019, with services at 11 a.m. at Church Archer Funeral Home in Liberty with the Rev. David Culver officiating. Burial immediately following at Moore Cemetery in rural Clay County.
