Charlotte Rosalyn Reynolds
May 23, 1927 – March 14, 2019
Charlotte Rosalyn Reynolds passed away March 14, 2019 in Liberty, MO. She was born on May 23, 1927 in Daytona Beach, FL, the daughter of Charles Frederick Engle and Iola Starr (Hornung) Engle. After graduation from high school in Westfield, NJ, she attended The Julliard School for one year before transferring to Graceland College in Lamoni, IA. Upon completion of her associate’s degree, she was united in marriage to James Rex Reynolds on August 27, 1949. She and Jim lived in Lawrence, KS and Westfield, NJ, where they started their family, before moving to Fresno, CA. It was there she earned her bachelor’s degree from Fresno State University and began her more-than 30-year teaching career which included teaching in the Greater Los Angeles area and Missouri. When she wasn’t directing school choirs she could be found directing any number of choirs at her beloved church, Community of Christ. Char, as she was best known, was part of that Greatest Generation, born and raised through the Depression and World War II, living by the creed “Waste not, want not”. Her loves were many and her energy endless. Her love of family – Raising four children, working full-time and caring for her invalid mother, and oh yea, being a wife and partner to Jim. Her love of her faith community – As a partner with her husband living the way; the way of love, forgiveness and peace. Travelling, organizing, and facilitating everything from choirs to campfires. Her love of music – From a child to a senior, she shared her talent, her beautiful voice, her ability to bring people together in song. Her love of beauty – Finding in gardening, painting, singing and caring she taught us beauty in all things. Make no mistake, she expected from people, but she gave in return. We consider ourselves blessed and loved to be raised by such a wonderful person. Charlotte was preceded in death by her husband Jim in 2010. She is survived by her children, Linda Reynolds, Santa Cruz, CA, Cathie (Glen) Meyer, Liberty, MO, Jim, Jr. (Helen), Grain Valley, MO, Janet (Jeff) Myhre, Alexandria, VA, her grandchildren, Hazelem (Jen) Clark, Gabriel Clark, Cameron (Kandee) Meyer, Callie (Jacob) Herzog, Rex Reynolds, Erin Reynolds, Austin Myhre and Eric Myhre and her great-grandchildren, Kamala, Nsharra, Yasmina, Mira and Eva Clark, Seth, Madisyn, Isaac and Levi Meyer.

I first became acquainted with Jim & Char in the summer of 1960 when I participated in a "Youth Venture For Christ" caravan with many other kids from the SF Bay Area. The first half of the week was spent in Ventura, the second half was spent in Fresno where Jim & Char were actively involved in church responsibilities and residing there. They were great to be around and were talented and gifted in so many ways, relating to every category of people. I saw them off-and-on thereafter in different areas and at different functions, always respecting their commitment to others and their various activities. My condolences to their family and friends; I was 15 when I first met them, I am now 74, and continue to hold them in high regard even after all these years. Peace and comfort to you.
