Chris August Larsen was born on December 9, 1960, in Carson City, Nevada, to Phil and Muriel Larsen. He was the youngest of seven children. Chris graduated from Mineral County High School in Hawthorne, Nevada. He faithfully served a two-year mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Canada Vancouver Mission beginning in January 1980.
Chris loved road trips, racing cars, feeding wild horses, competitive shooting, talking about guns, and riding horses and motorcycles. He enjoyed old country music, old westerns, big mountains, hot summer days, and an ice-cold Dr Pepper. Chris had a deep love for history—he enjoyed reading about it and sharing what he learned. He loved the United States and deeply valued those who protect it. He often shared his thoughts on what Americans should remember and what we stand for.
Chris had a strong testimony of the gospel of Jesus Christ and believed deeply in the power of prayer. He shared that faith with many throughout his life. He will be remembered for many things, but especially for his sense of humor and his faith. He was deeply loved, and even though at times he felt undeserving of that love, he will be greatly missed.
Chris is survived by his four brothers and one sister: Jerry Larsen (Kathy) of Kaysville, UT; Louis Larsen (Karen) of Colorado Springs, CO; Rex Larsen of Salem, OR; Michael Larsen (Lynnette) of South Jordan, UT; and Nancy Riedel (Robert) of Anchorage, AK; as well as his brother-in-law, Kirt Hunter of South Jordan, UT.
He is also survived by his eight stepchildren: Lauren Alonso (Joe) of Liberty, MO; April Raborn of Kansas City, MO; Meagan Raborn (Jon) of Marshalltown, IA; James Raborn (Veronica) of Boone, IA; Jonathan Raborn (Katelynne) of Sioux Falls, SD; Kaytelen Raborn (Kim) of Red Oak, IA; Sarah Wightman (Samuel) of Marshalltown, IA; and Erin Raborn of Marshalltown, IA.
Chris is survived by 17 grandchildren: Matthew Alonso (Morgan), Briahna Alonso, Michael Alonso, Amelia Raborn, Anna Raborn, Aiden Raborn, Cataleya Pfrimmer, Linnea Pfrimmer, Liam Pfrimmer, Ryan Pfrimmer, Madalynne Raborn, Evalynne Raborn, Myalynne Raborn, William Raborn, Elaina Wightman, Donald Wightman, and Gwendolyn Wightman; and one great-grandchild, Clark Alonso.
He is also survived by many nieces and nephews: Nicole Stohl, Jessica Olsen, Kimberly Holbrook, Denise Nelson, Kendra Larsen, Michelle Riedel, Amanda Sherwood, Heather Mills, Shawn Hunter, Jason Larsen, Michael Larsen, Eric Larsen, Morgan Larsen, Brad Larsen, Jared Riedel, and Corey Riedel.
Chris was preceded in death by his parents, Phil Larsen and Muriel Jenson; his sister, Gloria Larsen Hunter; his wives, Dawne’ Black and Candace Raborn; and his nephews, Russell Larsen and Justin Riedel.
Chris, may you now know peace, as your pain is no more. May you feel comfort knowing your faith has made you whole. May you walk with the Savior, that all your questions may find answers. May you watch over your family who remain here on earth, until we see you again.
