Dorothy M. Beggs

Dorothy Marie Beggs, 83, of Liberty, MO died March 1, 2015 at her home surrounded by family after a long illness. Dorothy was born in Kingman, Kansas, but lived in Lexington, MO during her youth. She was married to Charles "Bill" Beggs in 1953, and they moved to Liberty, MO where they established a business, Beggs Pharmacy, on the Liberty Square. She graduated from nursing school at Research Hospital in 1953 and worked as a registered nurse in the office of Drs. Hendren, Bowles, and Adams for many years. She was a Charter Member and very active in the church, a longtime member of the Lutheran Women’s Missionary League, and past District Secretary. She was a member of the Business and Professional Women's Association. When Liberty Hospital opened in 1974 she served as the first President of the Liberty Hospital Auxillary. She volunteered for a number of community charities, including Hillcrest Ministries and delivering Meals on Wheels. After her husband's death in 1994, she continued to manage their rental property business, Beggs Rental. She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents Vernon and Vivian (Weare) VanCamp, and brothers Don and Verle VanCamp. Survivors include two sons, Dr. Charles "Chuck" Beggs and Mark Beggs and wife, Andria; and her daughter, Cindy Perry and husband, Chris. She is also survived by two sisters, Jean Shrader and Carolyn Wellman; 4 grandchildren, Jake and Jenna Beggs, and Madison and Drew Perry; and nieces and nephews. In addition to enjoying her time with family and many friends, she enjoyed volunteering at church, volunteering in the community and playing bridge a few times each week. She was a wonderful Sister, Aunt, Mother, Grandmother, and friend that will be missed beyond words. Visitation will be 6-8pm, Thursday, March 5, 2015 at St. Stephen Lutheran Church, 205 N Forest Ave., Liberty, MO 64068. Funeral service will be 11am, Friday, March 6, 2015 at the church. The family suggests donations to Liberty Hospital Foundation Treehouse in lieu of flowers.
