Edgar “Monty” Monroe Ritter, 76, of Liberty, MO passed away on Wednesday, January 27, 2021 at Liberty Hospital. Monty was born February 7, 1944 to Edgar “Alva” and Edith Ritter in Boone, Iowa. He went to school and grew up in Ava MO, until he moved the Kansas City area where he lived most of his adult life. Shortly after moving to Kansas City, he got a job painting cars for Ford Motor Co., and in 1996 he retired. In 1968 he met Leola Ward (Shelley) in Riverside, MO and they were married on August 25, 1970. Between them they had five children who were a huge part of their lives. In his free time Monty enjoyed gardening and growing prized produce that he generously shared with family and friends. He loved spending time at the lake with his family and friends, farming, and supporting his KC Chiefs! Monty was also very involved with his Liberty AA Group and was a mentor to many. He will always be remembered for being generous and giving, as well as willing to do anything for anyone.
Monty was preceded in death by his wife of 42 years, a son Richard Ward, granddaughter Allison Yukon, and two sisters Stella and Marie.
He is survived by his son Greg Ritter (Andrea Keeth) of Kansas City, MO, daughters Sheila Yukon of Kansas City, MO and Shelley Barlow of Lebanon, OR. Also surviving are three brothers; JC, Hugh, and Gene, sister Linda, eight grandchildren; Tina Payne (Mike), Lloyd Bjorklund, Holley Fletcher, Isaac Yukon, Zack Ritter, Ashley Ritter, Joe Keeth, and Griffin Keeth, and eight great grandchildren; Corbin, Tadem, Shaylah, Ashlynne, Aven, Kylee, Elijah, Maverick, many nieces, nephews, and extended family.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Church Archer Pasley Funeral Home in Liberty, MO, Friday, February 5, 2021 from 5:00 – 7:00 PM.
