Ellis J. Malone, 85, of Gladstone, Missouri, passed away August 11, 2014. Ellis was born November 16, 1928 in St. Joseph, Missouri to Albert E. and Rachel Holtsclaw Malone. He attended Central High School and later joined the United States Army Air Corp as an aircraft mechanic and served in Japan. Using the GI Bill, Ellis attended aviation school and earned his FAA mechanic license. Ellis was employed by Mid-Continent Airways in Kansas City, Missouri and then by Braniff International for 35 years. Before he retired, Ellis was employed by Continental Airlines. Ellis met his lifelong partner Alice Louise Christman of St. Joseph, MO. and were married April 14, 1951. They had three children: Susan, Debra, and Shawn. Ellis was a lifelong member of Barry Christian Church. Ellis enjoyed reading, traveling with the family, playing with the grandchildren and great grand children, but he really enjoyed building and flying radio-controlled airplanes. In 1970, “Moe” was one of the founding fathers of the Sunchasers Model Airplane Club. He never tired of helping out new members, especially kids. Throughout the years, he was involved with several demonstrations in schools where he would teach each child how to build a balsa glider. They would learn about construction, a little about aerodynamics and have fun with their planes. Sometime in the 1970’s Moe built “Old Blue.” It was flown a lot, raced and competed in several events over the years. Old Blue still lives today as a testament to Moe’s ability not only to build a plane right, but to keep it in good condition for over 30 years. Throughout his life, his passion for aviation never diminished. Right to the very end, Ellis was still making plans to finish his next project and see it fly. Ellis loved traveling to Colorado and to Texas with his wife Alice to go fishing. Alice Malone preceded Ellis in death in 2012. Ellis is survived by one brother, Charles Malone of Independence, MO., and one sister Betty Sexton of St. Paul, MN., and one half sister Rochelle Marie Provence of Savannah, MO. Ellis is also survived by two daughters and a son and their spouses, Susan Virginia and Charles Dallstream of Richmond, MO., Debra Ann and Dale Herrick of Liberty, MO., and Ellis Shawn and Loretta Malone of Parkville, MO. Ellis leaves two grandsons and one granddaughter and their spouses: Christopher Guy and Heather Dallstream of Baker City, OR., Brian Ellis and Katie Dallstream of Wake Forest, NC. and Elizabeth Louise and Christopher Angelo of Kansas City, MO. Ellis is also survived by four great grandsons: Isaac Malone Dallstream, Christopher James Dallstream, Riley Ellis Dallstream, and Robert Joseph Angelo. Ellis J. Malone will always be remembered as a loving and caring person with a great sense of humor. It was extremely hard to pry a bad word out of him. Instead of telling someone good bye, Ellis would say, “Keep a cool stool and I’ll see you tomorrow.”
