Mr. George Philip Smith, 85, of Liberty, Missouri, passed away August 17, 2014. Phil was born in Kansas City, Missouri. He retired as the Vice-President of Boatman’s First National Bank of Kansas City. He was a member of the Second Baptist Church of Liberty, Missouri, where he had served as the Sunday Scholl Secretary. Phil graduated from William Jewell College in 1955, where he majored in economics and history. He was a member of the Sons of the American Revolution and had served as a Past President of the William C. Corum Chapter in 1990. He had also been a member of the Mayflower Society, Clay County Museum Association, and the Clay County Archives. He was preceded in death by his wife, Edith Payne Smith in 2011. Survivors include his sons: David Payne Smith of Easton, Maryland; Houstin George Smith of Lee’s Summit, Missouri; and Stuart Spencer Smith of Liberty, Missouri; Grandchildren: Sean Smith, Andy Smith, and Ashlee Davis; and one Great Grandson, Leroy Davis. A Funeral Mass is planned for 10:15a.m., Saturday, August 23, 2014 at the Our Lady of Mercy County Home, 2115 Maturana Drive, Liberty, Missouri. Visitation will be from 6:30-8:30p.m., Friday, August 22, 2014 at the Church-Archer-Pasley Funeral Home. Interment in the Glenridge Cemetery. The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the American Cancer Society or the Catholic Charities.
