James was born November 7, 1950 in Hastings, Nebraska to Milford and Margaret Dean. He graduated from Hastings High School and attended Kearney State College and the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. James served in the Air Force from 1971 - 1975. He married Bonnie Dunaway in 1971 and they raised two daughters, Amanda and Caitlin.
James was preceded in death by his parents and his brothers Shannon Timothy Dean and William Michael Dean.
He is survived by his wife, Bonnie Dean of the home, his daughters Amanda Dean of the home, and Caitlin Dean of San Francisco, his brother Steven Dean of Omaha, as well as nephews and nieces.
