John Blough was born in Kansas City, Kansas, the first child of Wayne and Lorene Blough. He grew up in Overland Park, Kansas, alongside his siblings, Mike and Gloria. Though he was born in KCK, John spent his adult life in Liberty, Missouri, where he built his life, raised his family, and made his home.
He was the proud father of four daughters—Shelly, Melanie, Summer, and Autumn—whom he loved deeply. Later, he became a grandfather to Dayzian, Sierra, Jonah, Hayden, and Miles. He also gained three sons-in-law—Matt, Eddie, and Vince—who became the sons he never had. He was always happy to share stories, laughter, and time together.
John spent most of his career working in the auto parts departments of Ford dealerships, a place that suited him well. He was loyal to Ford through and through, proud of the brand and the work he did.
He had a great sense of humor and loved a good laugh. One of his favorite sayings captured his outlook on life perfectly: “Money can’t buy you happiness, but it can buy you a Sea-Doo—and no one is sad on a Sea-Doo.” That was John— practical, playful, and firmly convinced that fun was worth making time for.”
John loved classic rock music and often said he grew up in the best time to be alive. Music, memories, and stories from his younger years were things he cherished and loved to share. He also had a deep interest in politics and was a committed Democrat, always engaged, opinionated, and eager for thoughtful discussion. And when it came to food, nothing ever quite compared to his mother’s cooking—something he spoke of with true appreciation and nostalgia.
As a family, we will remember John for his calming presence, his steady voice, and the way he made time for us. We will treasure the family trips he took us on as adults—from traveling together to Washington, D.C. for the Rally to Restore Sanity, to the annual trips to the Lake of the Ozarks that became a cherished tradition. We will hold close the stories he told and the quiet moments that now feel especially precious. His love for family was constant and unwavering.
Though our hearts are heavy, we are grateful—for the years we had, the memories we share, and the love that continues even in his absence. John’s legacy lives on through his children, grandchildren, and all who were fortunate enough to know him. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.
A private family Celebration of Life will be held at the Lake of the Ozarks on June 28, 2026, at 2:00 p.m.
