Linda D. Garza, 67, passed away on Thursday, February 14, 2019 at her home in Liberty, Missouri. Memorial Services will be 3:00 p.m. Saturday, February 23, 2019 at the Church-Archer-Pasley Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, Contributions may be made to the National Kidney Foundation.
Linda was born January 29, 1952 in Smithville, Missouri to Horace T. ‘Pepper’ and Myra M. (Bemis) Walpole. She attended Oak Park High School and graduated from Kearney High School, after transferring there her Senior Year. Except for a few years in the early 1980’s, when she lived in Brownsville, Texas, Linda was a Lifelong Resident of the Kansas City Area. She held a wide variety of jobs, including Insurance Salesperson, Ranch Hand, Clerk at Paperback Rack Bookstore, Manager of Village Store It, and finally Head of Security of The Kansas City Community Center and South House.
Linda loved singing, and many will remember her for her beautiful singing voice. She sang mostly country, along with Rhythm and Blues semi-professionally for many years, and was the vocal talent for several local bands, including, Another Roadside Attraction. Linda was a regular in the 1970s at the Country Hayride Opry and she sang around town at events accompanied by Joe Colbert and family folk bands. Her repertoire included, “Silver Threads and Golden Needles", “Don't It Make My Brown Eyes Blue", "I'm so lonesome I could Cry" and "Crazy". She also loved animals, especially cats. She was often heard saying that a house is not a home without a cat. She enjoyed spending time with her family, especially on the occasions when she could make them laugh. She also enjoyed baking; peach pie and peach cobbler were her specialties, and she was a fan of the I Love Lucy Show.
She is survived by her children, Michael Price and his wife Andrea, and Amanda Schintz and her husband Jason; her mother, Myra Devine; 3 grandchildren, Abbie Price, Jack Price and Benjamin Schintz; 2 sisters, Martha Wartick and Suzi Colbert; as well as several nieces and nephews.
