Lois Mae Baker was born an only child on January 5th, 1926, in Marshall, Missouri, Saline County. She was the daughter of Leroy (Roy) Odell Reade and Ethel Mae Caskey. She grew up in Marshall and attended Marshall High School where she danced, did ballet and played the violin, graduating in 1943.
After World War II, her high school sweetheart, Alva L. Baker, was discharged from the Navy on February 5th, 1946. He returned to Marshall to marry Lois Mae Reade on April 7th, 1946, and they were happily married for almost 62 years when he passed on January 15th, 2008.
She and Alva resided on acreages in Kearney and Liberty, Missouri, where they raised a few horses and enjoyed their dogs. During the 70’s she was a secretary at the Liberty Courthouse for the respected Judge Pratt. During the 80’s she would ride with her husband to Northeast High School where she worked as a secretary in the Principal’s Office. They finally retired together from Northeast Senior High School in 1982. Lois Mae and Alva spent many years enjoying league bowling and square dancing with friends. She loved jigsaw puzzles, gardened in her many flower beds, watched the local birds and wildlife and would take her Boston Terriers for long walks over the 40 acres. She was very fortunate to be active and able to live in her home until she was 99 years, thanks to the last couple being taken care of by her granddaughter, Amanda.
Lois Mae is survived by her daughter, Diane Westbrook of Marongo Valley, Calif., and her son, Doug Baker and wife, Connie of Liberty, MO. Family includes two grandchildren, Amanda Westbrook and Jesse Clay Baker and wife, Brittanie and two great grandchildren, Hudson and Greta Mae who all deeply adored her.
Lois Mae was a loving and dedicated wife, mother and friend.
She will be missed for her warmth, caring personality and dedication to her family.
100 incredible years young.
