

Nancie Alice (Garland) Chevalier, 74, of Liberty, Mo. passed away at home on Oct 13, 2014. Nancie, daughter of Luther and Emma Garland, was the first child born on January 1, 1940 in Johnson City, Tenn. Nancie was a graduate of East Tenn. State University with honors and attended the Univ of Ga. Graduate School. Nancie retired from the Clay County Children’s Justice Center as Deputy Juvenile Officer after 25 years of service. She had a great sense of justice and was an avid advocate for children. She had an indomitable spirit and never gave up. She enjoyed books and reading, and loved to give books as gifts. Nancie married the love of her life, Arthur J. Chevalier, on March 1, 1970 in Excelsior Springs, Mo. Nancie and Art resided in Liberty, Mo and shared their home with a series of beloved pets. She is survived by her husband Arthur, of the home. She is also survived by three sisters, Carole (Jim) Lohmeyer and Jean Garland of Lee’s Summit and Dorthea Evans of Warsaw. She is also survived by one brother, Jim Garland (Jerry) of Las Vegas, Nev. Also surviving is sister-in-law, Alice (Ben) Kyser, Grain Valley; Brothers-in-law John (Diane) Chevalier, Dallas, TX, Norman Chevalier, Ok City OK. Nancie was a loving aunt to several nieces and nephews. Visitation will be at the Newcomer’s Church-Archer-Pasley Funeral Home from 6:00-8:00p.m., Thursday, October 16, 2014. Burial will be at Blue Springs Cemetery with a private family service. The family suggest memorial contributions to an Animal Shelter of the donor’s choice.
