Pat Schmitt, 85, of Kansas City, passed away December 17, 2022. A visitation will be Friday, December 23rd from 1-2pm, with funeral services to follow at 2pm, all at Church Archer Pasley Funeral Home, 119 E. Franklin St., Liberty, MO 64068. Burial will follow in New Hope Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Children’s Mercy Hospital or the American Heart Association.
Pat was born April 24, 1937 in Vendor, Arkansas, the ninth of thirteen children. She grew up in Arkansas and during her first marriage, had three children, before moving to Kansas City and meeting the love of her life, Louis Schmitt. They married on October 20, 1972, expanding to a family of five, with the addition of two bonus children. Louis and Pat had one child together in 1978.
She was dedicated to her family and was a caretaker to many, her first words when visitors came over would usually be, “Are you hungry? Have you eaten?” Pat also was the go-to baby-sitter and adored spending time with her grandchildren. She enjoyed fishing, playing bingo, and going to the boats to do a little gambling. Pat and Louis loved traveling and have seen most of the United States, along with making wreaths and working at the tree farm.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her twelve siblings; and her daughters, Angie Schmitt, and Vickie Phillips.
Pat is survived by her husband of 50 years, Louis Schmitt; her children, Stan Smith, Stephen Schmitt (Cecelia), William “Buddy” Smith (Rhonda), and Paula Frey (Gary); her son-in-law, David Phillips; her nine grandchildren, Kelly, Kenny, Tricia, Lee, Joshua, Brett, Barbara, Megan, and Blake; as well as nine great-grandchildren, two great great-grandchildren, and many other relatives and friends.
