Toshiko met and married James (Jim) Sutton in November 1957 in Yawata City, Kywahu Island, Japan. They married shortly before he was discharged from active duty aboard the USS Bon Homme Richard. Toshiko was permitted to immigrate to the United States soon after their marriage. She and Jim had one son, Daniel (Danny) Sutton, born on June 14, 1964.
As an excellent seamstress, Toshiko worked for many years in the Garment District of Kansas City and for Weston-Crown Center Hotel shortly before retiring.
Upon the tragic death of her son, she retired to Chula Vista, California, where she became involved in church activities and English literacy classes for adults through the Chula Vista Community Center.
In 2008, due to declining health and onset of dementia, Toshiko moved into an Assisted Living group home, where she continued to pursue her personal interests, such as walking for exercise and spending time visiting with the other residents.
In 2014, out of necessity, Toshiko moved back to Missouri to be closer to her husband's family, first to the Bethany Care Center, Bethany, Missouri, and finally to Lawson Manor, Lawson, Missouri.
Toshiko loved to travel, frequently returning to Japan to visit with her siblings and their extended families. She was also deeply loved by members of her American family and will be missed.
She was preceded in death by her ex-husband, James Ross Sutton, and her son, Daniel Eugene Sutton.
