A celebration of life will be held Wednesday, May 19, 2021 at 11:00 am at Pleasant Union United Methodist Church, 5929 Coble Church Road, Liberty, NC with Rev. Keith Newell officiating; burial will follow in the church cemetery. Bill will lie in repose in the church sanctuary one hour prior to the service. The family will greet guests in the church fellowship hall immediately following the service.
Born in 1925, he was the son of the late Erastus and Ada Bell Brady Hicks and was also preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Virginia Ruth Staley Hicks; sisters, Kate Oaks, Josephine McMasters, Juanita Crutchfield, and Ruth Hicks; and brothers, June “JB” Hicks, Edsel Hicks and Wesley “Mutt” Hicks.
Bill proudly served in World War II providing medical supplies to those who survived the Atomic bomb. After building his own home, Bill worked as a carpenter building many homes and businesses still in existence. Bill spent many hours gardening and wood-working with most items given to others.
Bill was surrounded by special relatives, nieces, nephews, and friends who provided him with lots of love, companionship, and care. The family extends much love and thanks for a special caregiver who became like family, Debbie Collins Rancourt and to special family members Barbara Farrington, niece, and Justin Richardson, great-nephew.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions to Pleasant Union United Methodist Church, 5929 Coble Church Road, Liberty, NC 27298 or to Hospice of Randolph County, 446 Vision Drive, Asheboro, NC 27203.
