Dr. Thomas Edgar “Ed” Butler, Sr., age 74, of Liberty died on December 11, 2012 from lung cancer. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Lynda Wray Butler; daughter, Shannon Butler Stage and husband, Steve of Baton Rouge, Louisiana; son, Dr. Chip Butler and wife, Carol of Liberty; and grandchildren, Ben and Sam Stage, Lily and Carter Butler.
Ed was a graduate of the University of North Carolina Dental School and practiced dentistry in Liberty for 43 years. He was active in the Liberty community serving as deacon of First Baptist Church, was a Paul Harris Fellow and past President of The Liberty Rotary Club, and past member of the Liberty Town Council. He served as chair of many civic boards including Friends of the Library, Liberty Public Board of Trustees, Liberty School, Eastern Randolph High School and various dental organizations across the state. He was an avid golfer, hunter and fisherman.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday evening from 6-9 pm at Loflin Funeral Home of Liberty. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, December 13, 2012 at 11 am at First Baptist Church of Liberty, officiated by Rev. A. Brian Harrington; burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery.
