Helen Spoon Cheek Upstill

on Monday, August 11, 2014 at Moses H. Cone Hospital.

Helen spent her life caring for others as a Critical Care Nurse. She was an avid sports fan who loved animals, playing bridge, and simply enjoying life in her mountain cottage. She traversed the country many times in her RV as well as travelling the world with her brother N.B. and others. Late in life she took up aviation, soloing at age 65.

She was a loving and beloved mother, mother-in-law and grandmother and sister.

The family will have a private memorial service.

She was the daughter of the late Needham Broughton and Nettie Florence Spoon Cheek; also preceded in death is her brother, N. B. Cheek, Jr.

Helen is survived by her children, Laura U. Richardson of Greensboro, Shari A. Upstill of Greensboro, Steven D. Upstill (Krystyna) of Nelson, New Zealand, Richard A. Upstill of New Smyrna Beach, FL. and their father, David A. Upstill; grandchildren, Kimberly and Ania Upstill, Laura Ball and Audrey Richardson, Adam and Zachary Ball.
