

Irene was a proud mother of seven sons. She was always bragging about her boys and their families. Irene loved being a mom and grandma and was special enough to be promoted to even a great grandma. Irene was born in Queens, NY and continued to refer to herself as a “Yankee” even though she lived in North Carolina for almost 40 years. Irene made her livelihood owning her own cleaning business. Irene was a devoted member of Hickory Grove Methodist Church for over 20 years. She loved her church family and enjoyed many years of outings with her “Sassy Sisters”. Her church family was very special to her.
She was the daughter of the late Frank and Frances Esposito; and was also proceeded in death by her brother-in-law, Donald Grimes; and brother, Bobby Esposito.
Irene is survived by her children, Georgie (Pam) Werner of Mastic Beach, NY, Larry (Karen) Werner of Escondido, CA, Ronnie Werner of Patchogue, NY, Richard (Pamela) Werner of Oklahoma City, OK, Steven (Christine) Werner of Toluca Lake, CA, Michael (Kristen) Werner of Winston Salem, NC, and James Werner of Greensboro, NC; eight grandchildren, Matthew (Emily) Werner, Deanna (Sean) Graham, Megan (Harry) Maalouf, Berlin (Alex) de la Loza, Alexis (Dylan) Woosley, Samantha (Matthew) Cravens, Rebecca Werner, and Emily Werner; six great-grandchildren, Theo, Patrick, Peyton, Odin, Lila, and Luna; sister, Joan Grimes; and brother, Frank (Lidia) Esposito.
The family will receive friends for a time of visitation on Saturday, October 11, 2025 from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. at Hickory Grove Traditional Methodist Church, 10068 Silk Hope Liberty Road, Siler City, NC, followed by a funeral service at 11:00 a.m. Irene will be laid to rest in Hickory Grove Traditional Methodist Church Cemetery.
