Born on January 12, 1960, in Greensboro, NC, Jimmy was a graduate of Southern Guilford High School and Guilford Technical Community College and also attended A&T University. For nearly 40 years, he owned and operated Hammond Machine Shop.
Deeply committed to his community, Jimmy served as a leader for Boy Scout Troop 502 and coached baseball and basketball with Liberty Parks and Recreation for many years. He was actively involved with the Boosters at Northeast Randolph Middle School, Eastern Randolph High School, and Providence Grove High School, and participated in numerous events within the Liberty community.
Jimmy was preceded in death by his mother, Margaret Hoover Blake.
He is survived by his wife, Denise Beane Hammond; sons, James Ryan Hammond (Hadley), Austin Cole Hammond and Matt Griffin (Cheryl); father, James Harold Hammond, Sr. (Bobby); and sisters, Rhonda Kirkman (Charlie), Julie Dixon and Sheryl York (Dennis); and four grandchildren.
At the family’s request, in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Eastern Randolph High School (ERHS) Booster Club, 390 Eastern Randolph Road, Ramseur, NC 27316 or Providence Grove High School (PGHS) Booster Club, Attn: Erin Stalker, 5555 Mack Lineberry Road, Climax, NC 27233.
The family will receive friends for a time of visitation on Friday, August 22, 2025 from 1:00 until 2:45 p.m. at the Centre Friends Meeting Fellowship Hall, 325 NC Hwy. 62 East, Greensboro, NC. A funeral service will be conducted on Friday, August 22, 2025 at 3:00 p.m. at Centre Friends Meeting. He will be laid to rest in the Meeting Cemetery.
Jimmy touched the lives of many and will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
