James "Bearcat" Allen Matthews

A celebration of life service will be held at 1:00-3:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 10, 2026 at Loflin Funeral Home Chapel, 212 W. Swannanoa Avenue, Liberty, NC 27298; officiated by, Prophet William G. Brewer. Reading of the Scripture by Minister Angeles Brewer. Choir by Bethesda Bilingual Miracle Church of Siler City.

Bearcat was preceded in death by his father, Lacy Cheek and brother, Alonzo Bumpas.

He leaves behind to cherish his memory, mother, Lue Matthews Bumpas; daughter, Angela Brower; grandchildren, Antonio Isley, Timothy Isley, Antionette Brower and Crystal Brower; great-grandchildren, Jordin Morehead and Kendall Brower; sister, Beverly Bumpas; and niece, Halla Bumpas.

Bearcat was a member of Eastern Randolph High School, Class of 1970. He enjoyed working on cars, playing football, riding horses, playing the guitar and piano. Above all, he had a giving spirit and enjoyed helping others in need.
