

A graveside service will be held on Saturday, June 27, 2026 at 3:00 p.m. at Fairview Cemetery in Liberty.
Born in Franklin County, Virginia, Jean was the daughter of the late Grady Lennon Thomas and Amy Simms Thomas. She was also preceded in death by her husband of 77 years, Ernest Clay “Johnny” Younts and grandson, Michael Thomas Younts.
She leaves behind to cherish her memory her daughter, Rosemary Bray (Tommy); son, Ernie Younts (Elizabeth); 3 granddaughters, Amy Younts Brown (Kevin), Lauren Slocum Thompson (Bennett), Meredith Slocum McCauley (Steven Fish); 11 great-grandchildren, Connor Brown, Eliza Brown, Drew Thompson, Mollie Thompson, Charlie Thompson, Gray Thompson, Clay McCauley, Jack McCauley, Simms McCauley, Evelyn Pope McCauley, Morgan Wynn McCauley; sisters, Barbara Glass, Pat Rolley (Richard); brother, Bill Thomas; and 8 nieces and nephews, all whom she adored.
Jean and Johnny married in July 4, 1946 and spent 77 years in the Liberty community until moving to Cross Road Retirement Community in 2024. Jean also served her community for many years as a cafeteria worker at Liberty School. She had loving spirit and a kind heart. She never met a stranger and enjoyed feeding the children in her community was a great joy in her life. Above all, Jean’s greatest love was being a wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at Cross Road Retirement/Memory Care Unit for the care shown and given to Jean.
