John Hubert Moore

John spent his life working hard, serving his country, and giving back to his community. After graduating from Sumner High School in 1963, he stepped up to serve in the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam War. Back home, he took to the open road as a truck driver and later started his own business as the owner and operator of “Moore than a Bucket” tree service. To John, everyone was a friend he just hadn't met yet, and he was always the first to offer a helping hand. He left a lasting impact on local youth as the assistant Scout Master for Liberty Boy Scouts Troop 502, happily teaching them about camping, knot-tying, and mentoring them toward their Eagle Scout ranks. John was also deeply committed to fellowship, marking 50 years of membership with the Liberty Lodge #714 AF&AM. He didn't need a traditional building to practice his faith—John's church was always right under the pecan tree.

He was the son of the late Clyde Hubert Moore and Mary Dickens Moore; and was also preceded in death by two sisters, Linda Bryson and Melba Ward.

John is survived by his life mate, Evelyn DeGroot; sister, Gale Nuckles; and several nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held on Sunday, August 2, 2026 at 2:00 p.m. at The Loflin Funeral Home Chapel, 212 W. Swannanoa Avenue, Liberty, NC.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Liberty Masonic Lodge, Memo: In Memory of John Moore, 6314 Kimesville Road, Liberty, NC 27298.
