Judy was born on August 23, 1946, in St. Louis, Missouri. She attended Liberty High School and later graduated from Hamlet Hospital School of Nursing in 1967. She began her nursing career at Wesley Long Community Hospital in Greensboro, where she lovingly cared for her patients for more than four decades. During her career, Judy served as a Floor Nurse and Head Nurse before finishing her career in the Endoscopy Unit. She retired in 2010.
In 1992, Judy met Richard C. Rogers through her work, and the two were married on September 23, 1995. Richard was the love of Judy’s life, and she cherished the years they shared together.
Judy was undoubtedly Mickey Mouse’s #1 fan. Her extensive collection of Mickey Mouse memorabilia, her Mickey-themed license plate, and even her social media handles served as a testament to her lifelong love of the beloved character. Arguably, the only thing Judy loved more than Mickey was her family. She loved them fiercely and was always proud to tell everyone she met about them.
Family was at the heart of Judy’s life. She doted on her parents and especially enjoyed caring for her Daddy, Dr. Joseph B. Griffith Jr., until his untimely passing in 1994. She continued to lovingly care for her mother, Irma, even after she moved into an assisted living facility closer to Judy’s home. Judy remained devoted to her mother and continued to visit and care for her until Irma’s passing in 2018.
Judy loved holidays and cherished every opportunity to gather with family. She also treasured the many friendships she made throughout her life and leaves behind numerous friends who will remember her fondly. She was an animal lover as well and shared many happy years with her and Richard’s loyal canine companions, Bogart and Chloe. She also leaves behind her beloved cat, Midnight.
Judy was a lifelong member of Grace Lutheran Church of Liberty, a place that held a special place in her heart.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Dr. Joseph B. Griffith Jr. and Irma Fisler Griffith.
Judy is survived by her loving husband, Richard C. Rogers; her brothers, James J. Griffith (Pat) and JB Griffith III (Lisa); nephews, Jimmy Griffith Jr. (Kat), Jairus Griffith (Liz), Micah Griffith, Jadon Griffith, Rick Rogers (Beverly), Robert Mandigo (Sherry) Clark Mandigo, and bonus nephew Caleb Rogers; and nieces, Laurie Ashley, Alison Griffith Pearson (Kyle), and Sarah Griffith Hardin (Seth). She also leaves behind numerous great-nieces and great-nephews who loved their “Aunt Judy” dearly and will miss her very much.
The family will receive friends for visitation on Saturday, August 22, 2026, from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m. in the Fellowship Hall at Grace Lutheran Church, 146 S. Fayetteville Street, Liberty, NC 27298. A celebration of Judy’s life will follow at 11:00 a.m. at the church.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Grace Lutheran Church, 146 S. Fayetteville Street, Liberty, NC 27298.
