Larry Blair Bourquin

Larry Blair Bourquin, 80, of Julian died on October 4, 2013.

A funeral service will be held on Sunday, October 6 at 4:00 p.m. at Julian United Methodist Church officiated by Rev. Nancy Vaughan. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church. A funeral service will also be held on Saturday, October 12 at 2:00 p.m. at Grisier Funeral Home. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Mr. Bourquin was born July 25, 1933 in Wauseon, Ohio to the late Charles R. and Edna Traut Bourquin. He lived in the Archbold vicinity until his enlistment in the US Navy during the Korean War and became a volunteer in Submarine Forces, Pacific. He received his BS in Geology and MS in Geodetic Science from Ohio State University. The major portion of his career was with the US Naval Oceanographic Office followed by several years with AT&T Advanced Technologies. He conducted scientific studies in many countries and ocean areas, some as diverse as Norway, New Guinea and Egypt.

He was a member of the Julian United Methodist Church, The American Legion Post #81 of Liberty, Moose Lodge #685, and a past member of The American Congress of Surveying and Mapping and The Marine Technological Society.

He is survived by his wife Carol, three children, daughters, Elizabeth Bourquin and husband, Alvan Allison of Ann Arbor, MI, Sandra Bowden and husband, Steven of Greensboro, NC; son, Michael Bourquin and wife, Holly of St. John’s, FL; sisters, Lynne Leu and husband, Dale of Archbold, OH, Janet Meyerhofer of Wauseon, OH; six grandchildren, Emma and Lucas Kennedy, Ben and Andy Bowden, and Morgan and James Bourquin.

At the family’s request, in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Julian United Methodist Church, PO Box 35, Julian, NC 27283.

I was a young friend of Larry's while in grove city high school. Larry was the usband of my high school teachers, (Sarah?). They lived on Park street here in grove City. Larry and I went squirrel hunting a few times and were good friends and was sorry to see them leave in the late 1950's. Always wondered what happened to them. Was thinking about him today and "googled" his name and came up withe the obituary. I am sorry to hear of his death. Would love to hear from my 1950's high school teacher.

I am so sorry to hear of Larry's passing. Larry was so much fun to be around, his stories and intelligence have left a lasting impression on me.He was a prince.
