

In loving memory of Melvin Whitaker, who passed away peacefully at Genesis Healthcare Center in Siler City, North Carolina. Born on July 17, 1937, in Dobson, North Carolina, Melvin was the cherished son of Persie and Arthur Whitaker. He is now reunited with his parents, his beloved daughter Sue Whitaker, his son Don Whitaker, and his siblings Howard, Harvey, and Bobby Whitaker, along with his sisters Stella McGee and Geraldine (Gerri) Williams.
Melvin is survived by his devoted wife, Elsie Irene Whitaker, who stood by his side through all of life's seasons. He leaves behind a loving family, including his stepdaughter Cindy Stevens, stepsons Ralston Baxter and Kenneth Baxter, and his treasured grandchildren, Don Whitaker Jr., Erika Moore, Justin Routh, and McKenzie Baxter. Also surviving him are his dear siblings, Patsy Whitaker Price and Alton Monroe Whitaker.
A proud veteran, Melvin served his country with honor in the United States Army. Following his service, he built a fulfilling career in construction and as a professional truck driver, where his strong work ethic and dedication were evident to all who knew him.
Melvin's life was a testament to his deep faith and unwavering devotion to Jesus. As a pastor at Freewill Baptist Church in Greensboro, North Carolina, for ten years, he not only preached the word of God but embodied it through his actions. Known for his generosity and compassion, Melvin was always ready to lend a helping hand to those in need.
A service to honor Melvin's life will be held on Friday, September 18, 2026 at 1:00 pm at Lakeview Memorial Park, located at 3600 North Oh Henry Blvd, Greensboro, North Carolina. The family will receive friends for a time of visitation from 6:00-8:00 pm on Thursday, September 17, 2026 at Loflin Funeral Home, 212 West Swannanoa Avenue, Liberty.
His family extends their heartfelt gratitude to all who have supported them during this difficult time, and they share a special message: "Memories and love will be forever in our hearts."
