He was the son of the late Roger William Zimmerman and Janet Leigh Myers, and he was also preceded in death by his brother, David Thomas Zimmerman and his beloved rescue cat, Lily.
He leaves behind to cherish his memory his wife of 27 years, Tammy Martin Zimmerman.
Mike lived in Milwaukee, Wisconsin until the age of 18, then moved to Greensboro with his family. He began working as an auto mechanic and later as a diesel mechanic for many years. He was also a parts counter salesman for Piedmont Peterbilt in later years. In 1997, he and his wife married and later moved to Liberty.
In his free time, Mike enjoyed hunting, fishing with his friends, and vegetable gardening. He had a "green thumb" and could grow anything. He attended many NASCAR races and was a huge Dale Earnhardt, Sr. fan. Since he grew up in Wisconsin, he was born to be a Green Bay Packers fan, and he enjoyed attending the games. As an avid chess player, he enjoyed playing the game with his friends and winning. Mike was an excellent cook, whether he prepared the food inside or grilled for a barbeque. He was known for being a great friend, and was always willing to help.
He will be dearly missed and loved by so many.
A private memorial service will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Beacon Place Authoracare Collective of Greensboro, https://www.authoracare.org/give or the U.S. National Arboretum, https://www.usna.usda.gov/support/direct-contributions/.
