Ruby Bailey Layton

Ruby Bailey Layton, 85, of Julian, passed away on Sunday, July 4, 2021 at Beacon Place in Greensboro. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, July 9, 2021 at Welker’s Crossroads Evangelical Methodist Church in Julian. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church; burial will follow at Dr. Clyde M. Gilmore Memorial Park in Julian.

Mrs. Layton graduated from John Wesley College. She was employed by VF Corporation for over forty years and worked in customer accounting. She was a founding member of Welker’s Crossroads Evangelical Methodist Church in Julian. Mrs. Layton loved the Lord and served on the church finance committee and as church treasurer for many years. She dearly loved all of her family, especially her grandchildren and her nieces and nephews. She also loved gardening and her flowers.

Mrs. Layton was the daughter of the late Clyde Clarence Bailey and Annie Cross Bailey. She was also preceded in death by her husband, James “Jim” Richard Layton, Sr., her son, James Richard “Richie” Layton, Jr., sisters, Lorene Bailey May and Irene Bailey May, and brothers, John Calvin Bailey and Ralph Robert Cross.

She leaves behind her son, Kenneth Gregory “Greg” Layton and his wife, Patricia Layton, grandchildren, Jennifer Layton Lavoie and her husband, Robert, Michelle Layton and Nicole Layton, and great grandchildren, Shane Layton and Braden Layton, and several nieces and nephews who were all very special to her.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Welker’s Crossroads Evangelical Methodist Church, 3926 Old Julian Rd., Julian, NC 27283, or Beacon Place Authoracare Hospice, 2502 Summit Ave., Greensboro, NC 27405.
